As most of you know I ran in the Feb 5th 2008 primary as a Democrat for Lake County Board district 16.  I lost by 197 votes after a Feb 4th mailing by my opponent stating I would support drivers licenses for illegal immigrants if I won.  I did not and still do not support this position.  They used my address and a fictitious organization name in the mailing to all registered Democrats in Lake County Board district 16.

As a Democrat I am supporting all the candidates for county, state and congressional seats except Terry Wilke for Lake County Board district 16, that covers Hainesville and all the Round Lake communities. If someone is going to represent Hainesville on the county board they have to be willing to debate issues face to face and not participate in anonymous attacks at the last minute to win elections.  Terry Wilke did not show up to public forums after he was invited or return phone calls from newspapers or community groups during our campaign.  Mr. Wilke does not campaign door to door, but relies on barraging people with last minute mailings.  What we do and how we act during our campaigns is the same way people tend to govern.  We are experiencing enough problems at the state level with the inability of Democrats and Republicans to pass a capital budget which would create jobs for residents of Hainesville and the Round Lake area.

I am asking those Democrats that voted for me and those that did not to trust me and support the incumbent Republican candidate for Lake County Board district 16, Bob Powers.  He is one of the few county board members that voted against a pay increase for himself in 2008 and also against spending $21 million dollars on new maintenance facilities for the Lake County Forest Preserve district, during a period when everyone in Lake County is tightening their "belts".

The families of Hainesville and the Round lake area deserve someone that is willing to work hard and fight for them so their voices can be heard at the county board and Bob Powers will continue to do that.
